Video Poker

In a game of Video Poker, you play against a poker machine. Usually, people who wish to improve their poker skills prefer playing at Video Poker. Video Poker is a good alternative to conventional poker, where there is less house competition.

A player places a bet, and in turn, gets a hand of five cards. The player may discard or keep the cards allocated the Video Poker machine. If you discard your card, the machine replaces those cards with new ones, and you win or lose the hand as per the value of your hand.

A hand consists of the best five cards held by the player. As such, the Ace has the highest value, followed by Kings, Queens, Jack and so on.

Several possible hands in the game of Video Poker are:

1. No pair: Is the lowest combination of cards possible. Usually, it consists of five dissimilar cards that do not have any value.

2. One pair: two cards of the same value and color form one pair, for instance, two hearts.

3. Two pair: Signified by two pairs in the same hand such as two 8’s and two 6’s.

4. Three of a kind: Described by three cards having the same value in a single hand, for example, three aces.

5. Straight: Five successive cards in a hand. They need not be of the same suit though, such as 2, 3,4,5,6. Even Ace can be used as either as “1” as in Ace,2,3,4,5 or it can be placed above the King  as in 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace.

6. Flush: Five cards of the same suit, they need not necessarily be in any order.

7. Full House: Consists of three cards having same value and includes a pair. For example, three kings and two aces.

8. Four of a kind: Consists of four cards of the same value such as four jacks.

9. Straight Flush: This hand contains a straight as well as flush, so that it includes five sequential cards of the same suit.

10. Royal Flush: This is the highest hand possible in poker. It consists of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, and all cards of the same suit.

Usually, the winning hands are placed on the payoff table. It consists of five columns according to the amount of bet varying from 1 to 5 coins. The sum won by the player is at the winning hand line and bet size column.

There are several versions of Video Poker differing from the winning hands collection and the used deck. The player has maximum edge on a five-coin bet. Often most Video Poker variations use pairs, which are higher than 10, (Better or Tens), Jack (Better or Jacks), King (Kings or better), or only a pair of Aces. (Two Aces, Ace).

Some of the variations of Video Poker played are Faces and Aces Video Poker, Video Poker Joker and Deuces, Video Poker-Deuces Wild, Double Joker Poker and Better or Jacks Video Poker.

If the deck contains wild cards such as joker or wild deuces, then these cards can be played at any value in a Video Poker game. Royal Flush in wild Video Poker is again divided into two hands, one with wilds (known as Wild Royal Flush) and the other without wilds (called Natural Royal Flush).

On winning a game, the player has the opportunity to either cash it or double the payout by betting or gambling with the machine again. Here, the player is given one more hand of five cards, whereas the dealer holds up one card with the remaining cards face down. If the player then chooses a card of greater value, then the payout is doubled.
